WHAT IS OUR PURPOSE?

Motivate Our Youth

The Northwest American Shudokan Association College Scholarship Fund is supported by several affiliate Shudokan schools from the Northwest area.  Each of the schools are recognized as being part of the organization to be able to provide a better way of martial arts for every student that comes through the doors.  A collage scholarship award was perfect way we could help our students. It provides a goal they can work towards.

WAYS WE HELP

Scholarship Fund

Northwest American Shudokan Association College Scholarship Fund was established by Hanshi Morris Mack and Shihan Kara to make it possible to award $1,000 scholarships to black belt graduating seniors as they continue their education.  Awarding the first scholarship in 1989, to date the association has presented $352,000 to 335 students.  In 2019 the scholarship amount was raised to $1500.00.

To qualify for a scholarship, recipients must be an actively training black belt within an affiliate Shudokan School, a senior having a GPA of 3.0 or higher, with three letters of recommendation and a college or institution of higher learning letter of acceptance.

The association's annual fall tournament is one of the  main contributors to the fund, as all 20 dojo's come together in fellowship and support.  In addition to a traditional tournament, the day also includes a seminar, raffle, and silent auction.

Although we will greatly miss the fun and fellowship we have enjoyed at this yearly event, we are committed to ensuring the scholarship funds will be there for our students.  When one door closes we find a way to open another, and the only way we fail is to quit.  Gambatte!
